Franck Vigroux & Antoine Schmitt: Chronostasis, AV live

Composer and improviser Franck Vigroux intertwines noise, improvisation, electroacoustic, industrial, hörspiel, and contemporary music. He performs alone or collaborates for live acts with numerous renowned names. He is back to Sonica in Kinoteka with the project Cronostasis, which he developed in collaboration with artist Antoine Schmitt. Cronostasis, which had its premiere in the Centre Pompidou, is a state of brain illusion. It is a declaration of immediate future while listening to music, when it feels like the time has paused. Audio-visual performance tests the limits of laws of time as an elastic component, with spinning, stretching and turning thereof. The work, which is being interpreted live by Vigroux and Schmitt, follows open notation and partial improvisation and is synchronised by their ears and eyes, varying a little each time they perform.

Sound Garden: Ludus

Simina Oprescu is a composer, video and mixed media artist living in Bucharest. With the help of various instruments, ‘sound objects’ and digital programs she experimentally uses sound as means of transforming our own perception of us, environment and movement. This year she is back at Sonica festival with her new audio-visual work Ludus, which investigates how the set of rules, which are otherwise just dictating the game, here directly influence the sound and rhythm and are consequently creating aleatoric, unpredictable movement of sound in space.

Simina Oprescu is an artist presented by the Shape Platform co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

Jenna Sutela: Holobiont, exhibition

Finnish artist Jenna Sutela seeks to identify and react to precarious social and material moments, often in relation to technology. Her work Holobiont considers the idea of embodied cognition on a planetary scale, featuring a zoom from outer space to inside the gut. It documents Planetary Protection rituals at the European Space Agency and explores extremophilic bacteria in fermented foods as possible distributors of life between the stars. Bacillus subtilis, the nattō bacterium, plays a leading role. The term “holobiont” stands for an entity made of many species, all inseparably linked in their ecology and evolution.

First and Last Men, film, 2020

Two million years in the future. The human race finds itself on the edge of extinction. All that is left are lonely surrealistic monuments, projecting their message into the wild. The only feature film of the Icelandic composer Johann Johanssonn is based on the eponymous science fiction novel from the year 1930. With long shots of Yugoslavian monuments, narration by Tilda Swinton and mysteriously sensitive music, which Johanssonn composed with Yair Elazar Glotman, the humankind of the future unites into one consciousness, composed of many telepathically linked individuals and speaks to us for the last time before its extinction.

kӣr, live performance

Kӣr is a pseudonym of Bane Jovančević, resident and programme director of Belgrade club Drugstore. In his music he combines the contemporary post-industrial electronic procedure with echoes of tribal mystique. Byzantine sacred music traditions and Balkan folk rhythm are merging with modular synthesis and power electronics into hypnotic soundscapes. You can meet him at the PSSST! Talks program, or listen to his magic under the arches of the Slovenian Youth Theatre.

Kӣr is an artist presented by the Shape Platform co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

Kutin / Lechner: Rotor, AV live

Live performances and sound installations from Vienna-based artist Peter Kutin hold a physical and psychological impact and embrace the spectator into intensive bodily experience of light and sound. Part V : Heat of his continuing project Decomposition series will have its world premiere right here, at Sonica Festival in Equrna Gallery. Kutin will additionally present his project Rotor, which was realised in collaboration with video programmer Patrikom Lecherjem and ingineer Mathias Lenz. The piece is centered around a rotating/kinetic sound-sculpture, which is equipped with a four channel speaker system and a 360° camera. When the artist controls the speed and rotation, acceleration and deceleration become the main parameters, enabling the artist to create psychoacoustic otherworldly piece, which seems to follow its own logic.

Peter Kutin is an artist presented by the Shape Platform co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

24th September, 8pm // Čolnarna, Tivoli Park
Kleemar, No Love in Modern World (album premiere)

Kleemar is a slovenian DJ, music producer and electronic music performer, who will present his debut album No Love in Modern World, released this August. The album is a series of compositions, which are full of nostalgic synth lines and organic atmospheres. Kleemar’s music is more than a chase of the ever-changing music trends, a homage to the pioneers who created timeless tracks and the machines, which made that music possible. He describes his process as a play with instruments, recognizing the patterns within the chaos and assembling them into something less chaotic, allowing the process to go its own way.

24th September, 8pm // Čolnarna, Tivoli Park
BRGS: In_Dependences, live performance

On his new record In_Dependences versatile percussionist, electrophonic musician, improviser and composer BRGS builds a dialog with nature and submerges into the layers of decentralised field of everyday noise. The recordings originate from various outdoor spaces and locations and are merged with sounds of preparated drums and electrophonics. The work questions human dependency on nature, its (too) deep interventions and nowadays almost inevitable and always-present noise pollution.

NO1 presents ROTOЯ
(live AV by Peter Kutin & Patrik Lechner)

Peter Kutin will present ROTOЯ, a project realised in collaboration with video programmer Patrik Lechner and ingineer Mathias Lenz. The piece is centered around a rotating/kinetic sound-sculpture, which is equipped with a four channel speaker system and a 360° camera. The artist controls the speed and rotation and therefore directly influences the projected video-images as well as the sound-characteristics. Acceleration and deceleration become the main parameters, which enable the artist to create a psychoacoustic otherworldly piece that seems to follow its own logic. Referring to Paul Virilios’s Dromology, the work questions speed as a metaphorical racetrack, as a central element of society, media and warfare.

Peter Kutin is an artist presented by the Shape Platform co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

Aloïs Yang: Micro Loop Macro Cycle, video, 2018 Aloïs Yang: Distant Water Exotic Landscape, installation, 2020

The work of Aloïs Yang explores the relation and interaction between people, sound, and the external world. The media artist, performer and experimental musician uses sound as his primary material, as the communicational medium that is interconnected with data of context, visual, lighting, and human interaction. His work explores our understanding of time and space, on both the “outer” physical world and the “inner” metaphysical levels of awareness. His works Micro Loop Macro Cycle in Distant Water Exotic Landscape are presented in the group exhibition Paradise Haunted Garden in Equrna Gallery.

Aloïs Yang is an artist presented by the Shape Platform co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
